Dolphins vs Raiders Week 3 | 2021 Season

The Silver & Black were looking to keep the win streak going as they took the Dolphins vs Raiders game into overtime for their second OT this season. The winless Miami Dolphins started off strong with two touchdown scores and seemed to be taking the cake on Sunday but the rest of the game was evenly matched and ended in overtime with, you guessed it, a kicker showdown. What a weekend for the kickers.

Derek Carr put up some great numbers with 386 yards, two touchdowns, and 1 interception that resulted in Miami’s first score. During the middle of the 1st quarter, Carr targeted tight end Foster Moreau but threw way off to Dolphins linebacker Elandon Roberts for a 85-yard pick six. Minutes later, Dolphins running back Malcolm Brown rushed 24 yards for a touchdown to bring their lead to 14-0.

The Las Vegas Raiders defense picked up and forced a safety moments after a punt return where Dolphins’ rookie receiver Jalen Waddle got tackled in the end zone by Raiders’ cornerback Casey Hayward Jr. This momentum shift brought the Raiders multiple scores starting with a 50-yard kick from Daniel Carlson. To finish the first half, Carr found his fullback Alec Ingold for a short 1-yard touchdown.

The Raiders offense continued to take advantage in the 3rd quarter where Carr found receiver Hunter Renfrow for an open look. Renfrow caught a 12-yarder to bring it to the end zone. With Josh Jacobs out nursing his ankle injury, backup running back Peyton Barber stepped up big time finishing the game with 111 yard off 23 carries. Early in the 4th quarter, he was able to jump over the Dolphins lineman at the goal line for his first touchdown of the season. Fantasy waiver wire alert!

With starting quarterback Tua Tagovailoa out on the IR with fractured ribs, the Miami Dolphins relied on Jacoby Brisett who failed to throw a touchdown this game but was able to rush a clutch 1-yard score at the very end of the 4th quarter with 8 seconds remaining to tie the game 25-25.

In overtime, the two teams battled their way to get just enough yardage on each possession to kick a field goal. Carlon kicked his straight down the middle for 38 yards while Dolphins kicker Jason Sanders added his own with a 50-yard bomb. With the golden goal in hand Carr, Barber, and receiver Bryan Edwards all contributed big plays to bring the team to the red zone. Carlson was able to seal the deal to win the game 31-28.

The Las Vegas Raiders face their division rivals the Los Angeles Chargers on October 4 in a Monday night showdown at SoFi Stadium in Inglewood, California.
