Las Vegas Raiders acquire T Justin Herron and 2024 seventh round pick
Announced on Wednesday, the Las Vegas Raiders acquire T Justin Herron via a trade with the New England Patriots. The Raiders also receive a 2024 seventh round pick.
It was obvious that the Raiders needed to strengthen their offensive line after the two game season showcase. With Brandon Parker sidelined for the remainder of the season, the Raiders had to add more depth at right tackle, where they continue to have issues.
In exchange after Raiders acquire T Justin Herron, the Patriots will receive a 2024 sixth round pick. The Patriots selected Herron in the sixth round of the 2020 NFL Draft. Prior to his time in the NFL, he played college football at Wake Forest. Herron still has two years remaining on his rookie contract and will turn 27 years of age this upcoming November.
The 6 foot 5, 305 pound tackle has started in 11 games under Josh McDaniels in New England for the 2020 and 2021 seasons. As a rookie, Herron started six games, starting four at left tackle, once at right tackle, and once as a tight end. In 2021, Herron started two games at left tackle and two games as right tackle. As the Raiders acquire T Justin Herron, he is expected to start at right tackle or a top swing tackle.
Although the deal had not yet been made official, coach McDaniels told reporters that general manager Dave Ziegler had been given the “opportunity” to acquire Herron.
“We’ll just let him come in and compete and acclimate to what we’re doing and then see where it goes,” said McDaniels. “But no expectations, other than just adding a player that we are familiar with that we feel like has some upside and looking forward to develop him.”
