Raiders vs 49ers Week 17 | 2022 Season

Happy new year to the Silver and Black — Another tie after regulation forced an overtime bout in the Raiders vs 49ers Week 17 matchup on Sunday at Allegiant Stadium. Without Raiders quarterback Derek Carr, who was benched and replaced by Jarrett Stidham for the start, the neck and neck game that included 10 lead changes ended in a 37–34 win for San Francisco.

Stidham hasn’t seen any action since October 30 but didn’t miss a beat as he made 23 completions out of 34 attempts for 365 passing yards, three touchdowns, and two picks. On the other side, 49ers quarterback Brock Purdy scored his fifth two-touchdown game of the season with 284 yards on 22 for 35, and one interception.

“I didn’t feel like I had really any nerves at all this week,” said Stidham. “Perspective has changed a lot over the years. It’s not worth stressing over and getting all uptight, so I wanted to go out there and play free today and tried to facilitate the offense in a way to win. We fell short a little bit.”

Raiders vs 49ers Week 17 | 2022 Season Highlights

Looking for their ninth win in a row, the Niners game plan included 27 rushing carries across seven different players. Leading the day with 19 carries, 49ers running back Christian McCaffrey ran for 121 yards and one touchdown and also caught 6 receptions for 72 receiving yards. His teammate Brandon Aiyuk tallied up 101 receiving yards on nine catches and one touchdown.

Stidham seemed to have great chemistry with Raiders receiver Davante Adams, who caught seven receptions for 153 yards and two touchdowns. One came on a 4-yard pass into the back corner of the end zone right before the halftime break, and the other on the Las Vegas Raiders first scoring drive of the second half with a huge 60-yarder. Tight end Darren Waller also scored in his third tuddy of the season.

The Raiders vs 49ers Week 17 game, although a close one, was trending in the right direction for the Silver and Black as both teams stayed in contention with field goals throughout the second half. The Niners took a one possession lead as backup running back Jordan Mason executed a 14-yard rushing touchdown just before the 2-minute warning. The Las Vegas Raiders answered back on their very next drive with running back Josh Jacobs on a 1-yard rushing touchdown. Jacobs finished with 69 yards on 17 carries and one touchdown.

Luckily enough, Niners veteran kicker Robbie Gould missed his game-winning 41-yard field goal and extended the game into overtime. Unfortunately the Raiders weren’t able to capitalize due to an interception by Stidham, which led to an unpleasant  23-yard kick from Gould to win the game.

Out of playoff contention, the Las Vegas Raiders will finish the 2022 NFL Season on Saturday, January 7 at Allegiant Stadium against the AFC West division champions, the Kansas City Chiefs.
