We might be seeing a resurgence of quarterback Andy Dalton and the vet outshined everyone on the field in the Raiders vs Panthers Week 3 loss for the Silver and Black. Dalton threw for 319 passing yards with 3 touchdowns and no interceptions.
Dalton’s start was the choice of the Panthers’ decision to bench 2023’s first overall pick Bryce Young due to his poor performance in the first two weeks of the 2024 season. The result was something the Raiders weren’t expecting, the 36-year-old Dalton to dominate in only his third start for Carolina since joining in 2023.
Early on in the first quarter, Dalton and running back Chubba Hubbard connected for a touchdown. The Raiders and Alexander Mattison tied the game at the end of the quarter, but it was all Dalton in the second who found both receiver Diontae Johnson and Adam Thielen in the end zone. Got to give Thielen credit for his big play as he caught the ball over the shoulder and between two Silver and Black jerseys for the 31-yard TD.

In the second half, the Panthers continued to extend to lead with three field goals and a 1-yard score from Miles Sanders. Raiders QB Gardnew Minshew did find receiver Jakobi Meyers in the end zone for a 13-yard TD but it was too little too late as the Raiders were already up 33-15 at the point.
“The scheme wasn’t good enough, the design of the plays wasn’t good enough today, what we thought was going to work didn’t work and on the grass we didn’t execute,” said Raiders coach Antonio Pierce. “Nor did we put forth the effort, to me, that we put up in games past.”
Raiders backup QB Aidan O’ Connell filled in for Minshew in the remaining minutes of the fourth and connected with receiver Tre Tucker in the end zone after the two-minute warning. Tucker led all Raiders receivers for the day with 96 yards.
The Las Vegas Raiders host the Cleveland Browns on Sunday, September 29.
