The Silver and Black finished the preseason with a perfect record as the Raiders vs Patriots game ended in a 23-6 victory for coach Josh McDaniels’ new gig. In somewhat of a coincidence, his last game prior to the start of the 2022 NFL season was against his former team and his mentor Bill Belichick.
The win marked the Las Vegas Raiders’ first undefeated preseason in franchise history, going 4–0 — and this was without any reps from star quarterback Derek Carr and superstar receiver DaVante Adams. The Raiders did reserve their best defensive performance of the preseason, which included four sacks, two pass interceptions, three forced fumbles, and one recovery.
“I think both teams got a lot better this week, we found out a lot of things about ourselves, and that is what the point of it was,” said McDaniels about the Raiders vs Patriots game. “I’m very appreciative of the guys’ effort tonight. They put a lot into this week.”
Raiders vs Patriots Week 3 – 2022 Pre-Season Highlights
Daniel Carlson scored the first three points of the game with a 23-yard field goal in the Raiders’ first offensive possession. The next possession for the Silver and Black resulted in a 32-yard drive following an interception by linebacker Luke Masterson who caught New England Patriots quarterback Mac Jones on a throw down the middle. Running back Zamir White’s 4-yard rushing touchdown put the Raiders up 10-0.
After a pair of field goals from both teams, the Raiders vs Patriots game wasn’t necessarily out of reach for The Dark Side, but the Death Star defense looked ready for the season. Tashawn Bower made a statement to make the 53-man roster with a great effort that included five tackles and two sacks. He finished the preseason with 12 combined tackles and four sacks.
On the offense, backup quarterback Jarrett Stidham completed 4 of 6 passes for 72 yards while Chase Garbers finished the day going 12 for 22 and 158 total yards. Running back Brittain Brown added a score in the 4th quarter to bring the lead to 23-6. Side note: Carlson finished the preseason with a perfect 9 for 9 field goals. Best kicker in the game.
For New England, Jones completed 9 of 13 attempts for 71 yards and 1 pick via Masterson. Backup QB Bailey Zappe went 10 for 14 with 84 yards and an interception while Brian Hoyer threw 6 for 7 with 47 yards.
