Las Vegas Raiders players participate in Nevada Reading Week
In an effort to raise awareness of the value of reading in local schools throughout the valley, the Las Vegas Raiders participated in Nevada Reading Week.
Aiming to inspire a love of reading and to encourage students to continue to read as a hobby, Las Vegas Raiders players, Raiderettes, and staff visited several schools this year with the Nevada Reading Week’s theme “Embracing the Magic of Reading”. The schools include Acelero Learning Headstart Programs, Addeliar D. Guy ll Elementary School, D.L. Dickens Elementary School, Griffith Elementary School, Henderson International School, Howard Heckethorn Elementary School, Jack Dailey Elementary School, Legacy Traditional School, Robert E. Lake Elementary School, and R. Guild Gray Elementary School.
Together with Bank of Nevada, the Raiders continued embracing the magic of reading by buying books and bookmarks to give to schools within Henderson and in Las Vegas.
The Raiders front office staff read to students in kindergarten through fifth grade, while the players toured classrooms at R. Guild Gray Elementary School. This week’s activities continued with current Raider Jalen McKenzie stopping into the Robert E. Lake Elementary School P.E. classroom, where he read aloud to the students and conducted a Q&A.
The Raiderettes went to Acelero Learning Headstart Spring Valley to read aloud to toddlers that spanned from age three to five. The Raiders’ Darien Butler and Jalen McKenzie visited Addeliar D. Guy III Elementary School the next day. Finishing the week, Raiderettes and staff went to Henderson International School, where they read to and interacted with Prekindergarten through Second Grade students.
The Raiders have sponsored Nevada Reading Week for the past six years. Encouraging an enduring passion for reading, the Raiders persist in appreciating the significance of working together to create a future for education in Las Vegas.
