Nassib made history after the post becoming the first active NFL player to publicly come out. It was a fascinating example of bravery, passion, and kindness. “Studies have shown that all it takes is one accepting adult to decrease the risk of an LGBTQ kid attempting suicide by 40 percent,” said Nassib. “Whether you’re a friend, a parent, a coach or a teammate, you can be that person.”

Kevin Wong, Vice President of Communications of The Trevor Project, said the user traffic to The Trevor Project website jumped by 350 percent just days after the announcement by Carl Nassib. The impact he made was almost instantaneous, as The Trevor Project received donations from various companies and individuals all around the world. Even the NFL celebrated Carl Nassib’s historic occasion and matched his donation. According to The Trevor Project, Booking.com gave $100,000 and Axe Body Spray donated an undisclosed sum.

Carl Nassib supports The Trevor Project foundation to this day, as he continues to empower the LGBTQ community. According to data from The Trevor Project, it shows that more than 80 percent of LGBTQ youth believe LGBTQ celebrities have a positive impact on their self-esteem. Nassib, according to Wong, is obviously having that effect on the LGBTQ youth. All of us can also contribute and make a difference by donating to The Trevor Project here.
