Las Vegas Raiders sign LB Chandler Jones, four-time Pro Bowler and Super Bowl XLIX champion
The defense is stacking up as the Las Vegas Raiders sign LB Chandler Jones on a three-year, $54.5 million contract. Currently the NFL’s leader in sacks with 107.5 and forced fumbles with 33 since coming to the league in 2012, Jones now enters a division with three elite quarterbacks to try and slow down.
The veteran linebacker and pass rusher has spent his last six seasons with the Arizona Cardinals where he holds the top two single season performances for the franchise with 19 sacks in 2019 and 17 sacks in 2017. He also holds the Cardinals’ record for forced fumbles with eight in 2019 and six in 2021. In his first four seasons in the NFL, Jones played with the New England Patriots and won a championship in 2015.
Having started 15 games in 2021, the 6’5”, 255-pound Jones recorded 41 tackles with 31 solo tackles, 10.5 sacks, four passes defense, six forced fumbles, and one fumble recovery. For his career, Jones has tallied up 136 starts in 139 games, totaling 473 tackles with 331 solo tackles, 27 passes defensed, and an interception.
The Las Vegas Raiders sign LB Chandler Jones which puts him next to pass rusher Maxx Crosby, and he sure is excited about it too. “Credit a lot to my decision to the team success, the quarterback, obviously, having familiarity with the front office, and to have the opportunity to rush with the best up-and-coming defensive end in the NFL,” said Jones on SiriusXM NFL Radio. “I’ve been watching his game, cutting up tape with him before I was his teammate, so now that we’re in the same room, I mean that’s dangerous.”
Dangerous indeed, although we do face some risk with the 32-year-old. Jones missed 11 games in 2020 and his signing is quite expensive. With that said, he fits into the Las Vegas Raiders system perfectly and the pass rush duo with Crosby is arguably the best in the AFC West. We’re super confident that as the Raiders sign LB Chandler Jones, the payoff will be well worth it.
