Raiders vs 49ers Week 3 | 2021 Preseason

In what turned out to be an unmemorable game, the Raiders vs 49ers Week 3 preseason game was the last matchup we saw the Raiders face before we start up the regular season. Taking place at Levi’s Stadium in Santa Clara, California, the showdown between Raiders vs 49ers was somewhat of a letdown for the Silver and Black.

While the San Francisco 49ers mixed up quarterbacks with Jimmy Garoppolo and Trey Lance (whom are battling it out for starting QB) along with backup Nate Sudfeld, the Las Vegas Raiders only played Nathan Peterman for the last time this preseason as both Derek Carr and Marcus Mariota were held off without any reps. Peterman finished the game going 18 for 29 with 175 yards, 1 touchdown, 1 pick, and a QB rating of 76.1. None of the Niners quarterbacks threw a touchdown, as they relied on their trusty running game for four scores throughout the match.

The Raiders started the game with a three-and-out, only to have the 49ers score on their first possession with a 1-yard goal line rush by Jimmy G. 49ers starting kicker Robbie Gould topped it off with the extra point. On the next Raiders possession, Peterman and the team were stuck on their own 37 yard line and had to punt it out. The 49ers then spent the next 7 minutes on their next drive that went 75 yards on 14 plays, resulting on a Trey Lance 2-yard rush TD. To finish off the half, both teams traded a couple of field goals to set the game to 3-20 Niners.

After a few lost possessions for both teams to start off the second half, a lot of action took place in the third quarter. The Raiders started to gain some momentum when Peterman checked it down to running back B.J. Emmons who grinded his way through a crucial first down. At 7:24, Peterman ran left out of pocket for a great pass to wide receiver Dillion Stoner for a 32-yard gain to the SF 33.  On 3rd & 4, Peterman threw a 5-yard pass to fourth-string tight end Nick Bowers who broke a tackle and ran it into the end zone for six.

Unfortunately, that’s where the Raiders lost gas and gave up a 39-yard rushing touchdown to SF third-string running back JaMycal Hasty on the Niners next possession. To add fuel to the flame, Peterman got picked off the second play of the Raiders next possession when he intended a pass down the middle for receiver Keelan Doss. Niners safety Ha Ha Clinton-Dix took it 36 yards to the LV 11. Back again, Hasty ran it twice more for an 8 yard gain and a 3-yard touchdown for a 10-34 Niners lead.

The rest of the game was mostly defensive although the 49ers got to the end zone but failed to pass the goal line on the last play of the game. Not the best finish we would like to see from the Silver and Black but still a great effort from offense, defense, and special teams throughout the preseason. Now it’s time. The Las Vegas Raiders will play against the Baltimore Ravens on Monday Night Football on September 13 to start their first game of the 2021 season. LET’S GO RAIDERS!!!
