It was a tight contest during the Raiders vs Rams preseason Week 2 game that was held at SoFi Stadium in Inglewood, California. Raiders vs Rams resulted in a 17-16 win for the Las Vegas Raiders, with a nail biting 4th quarter ending where the Raiders had to defend a game-winning two point conversion play set by the Los Angeles Rams.
Third-string quarterback Nathan Peterman started the game with a couple of short yard pass completions but almost got picked off Rams free safety JuJu Hughes while aiming for third-string tight end Derek Carrier. The Rams didn’t do much during their first possession as they used a combination of third-stringers Jake Funk and Bryce Perkins and went three-and-out on their own 3-yard line.
On the second Raiders possession, backup running back B.J. Emmons gained a lot of momentum and took the team up 27 yards to the Rams 5 off of five plays. In the red zone, Peterman tried to rush through the goal line but was tackled by Rams strongside linebacker Justin Lawler at the Rams 1. Then running back Trey Ragas came through and rushed left and scored for his second touchdown of his 2021 preseason.

The Rams picked up their pace in the 2nd quarter when Perkins passed to backup tight end Kendall Blanton down the middle for a 9-yard touchdown. Minutes before the end of the half, a combination of Perkins, Funk, and backup running back Xavier Jones helped the Rams move down the field to the Raiders 18 and complete a 26-yard field goal kick by Matt Gay.
The score was 7-10 Rams going into the second half, and it wasn’t until the end of the 3rd quarter where the Raiders took a 5-minute drive down to the Rams 11 thanks to a Peterman 24-yard rush, followed by a number of short darts to his receivers. After Daniel Carlson kicked a 29-yard field goal, the game was tied at 10-10 going into the 4th quarter.
Although Peterman was picked off, the Raiders defense showed great poise in the 4th quarter when they blocked a 43-yard field goal attempt by Gay. On the Raiders possession, Peterman connected with receiver Marcell Ateman on a 29-yard touchdown. The Rams wouldn’t rest and ran the clock down on a 76-yard drive due to some crafty completions by Perkins, who finished the drive with a clutch touchdown pass to fourth-string tight end Jacob Harris. The score was 17-16 Raiders with 15 seconds left on the clock. The Rams had to practice their two-point conversion play and luckily failed as Perkins missed a lob to Harris.
What a game. The Las Vegas Raiders will play against the San Francisco 49ers at Levi’s Stadium in Santa Clara, California on Saturday, August 29.
