Las Vegas Raiders sign RB Damien Williams

Announced on Tuesday, the Las Vegas Raiders sign RB Damien Williams. Terms of the deal weren’t disclosed but the addition comes as Josh Jacobs continues to sit out. Raiders coach Josh McDaniels stated that the signing of Williams comes after players getting fatigued the last few days through two exhibitions in six days.

“Damien’s a guy we worked out earlier in training camp who was in shape. He’s had a productive career, he’s a good football player, he’s smart, he’s tough, “ said McDaniels as the Raiders sign RB Damien Williams. “So, we were interested in him honestly before that.”

The 5-foot-11, 220-pound Williams has been across 98 career games in the NFL while starting in 16. Throughout that span, Williams has recorded 1,397 rushing yards and 14 touchdowns in 336 carries. The versatile back also has 1,209 receiving yards and 11 receiving touchdowns in 154 receptions.

During his stint with the division rivals Kansas City Chiefs in 2019, Williams rushed a career-high 498 yards with five touchdowns on the ground along with 214 receiving yards and two touchdowns through the air in 30 catches. In addition, Williams made a tremendous impact in his team’s Super Bowl LIV victory where he rushed for 104 yards on 17 carries and two tuddies over the San Francisco 49ers.

The San Diego, California native has since played for two NFC teams, spending the 2021 and 2022 with the Chicago Bears and the Atlanta Falcons, respectively. Even though he only had 42 carries total over those two seasons, he was still able to land a job with the Raiders at the age of 31, who are in need of a running back while Jacobs is out due to a contract disagreement.

As the Las Vegas Raiders sign RB Damien Williams, the Silver and Black boost their running game depth with the 8-year back.
