Off to a good start, the Silver and Black kicked off the 2023 season in victory as the Raiders vs Broncos Week 1 matchup ended in a 17-16 win. In their Raiders debut, quarterback Jimmy Garoppolo and receiver Jakobi Meyers connected on two touchdowns, possibly providing us a forecast at what’s to come this season.
Completing 20 of his 26 passes, Garoppolo threw for 200 yards, two touchdowns as aforementioned, and one pick. Josh Jacobs led the backfield with 48 yards on the ground on 19 carries. Garoppolo had 9 carries of his own, for 11 yards, and Zamir White rushed for 2 yards on one attempt.
Garoppolo seemed to spread the ball around in his first start for the Silver and Black, allowing receivers Davante Adams, DeAndre Carter, and Meyers, as well as tight end Austin Hooper to get some reps in with the vet. Adams finished the game with 66 receiving yards on 6 receptions and was targeted nine times.

Broncos’ quarterback Russell Wilson finished the game with 177 yards on 27 for 34 passing and two touchdowns, one to Courtland Sutton and the other to Lil’Jordan Humphrey. Running backs Javonte Williams and Samaje Perine finished with 52 yards and 41 yards respectively, while Perine led the team in receiving yards with 37.
The two teams traded touchdowns in the first quarter while Wilson finished the first half with a scoring drive. The Raiders seized a 17-16 lead when Garoppolo connected with Meyers for a six-yard touchdown with 6 minutes left in the fourth. Denver, however, went three-and-out after Wilson missed Broncos tight end Adam Trautman on a third-and-11.
