Raiders vs Chargers Week 4 | 2023 Season

Another divisional rivalry in the Raiders vs Chargers Week 4 matchup resulted in a 17-24 loss for the Silver and Black. Justin Herbert rallied the first half to bring his team up with a 17 point lead which the Raiders just couldn’t overcome at SoFi Stadium.

The loss wasn’t a blowout by any means, as the Raiders kept the Chargers scoreless in the second half in an inspiring team effort on offense, defense, and special teams. Filling in for Jimmy G, who was unavailable due to concussion protocol, Aidan O’Connell threw 238 passing yards on 24 completions with only one interception. Herbert only threw 167 yards on 13 while connecting with vet receiver Keenan Allen for a touchdown, but had a tremendous game on the ground.

Herbert scored the first tuddy of the game on a 12-yard rush early in the 1st quarter. O’Connell also rushed a 1-yard touchdown, recording the first score of his career. Following the touchdown pass with Allen, Herbert rushed for another score on a 1-yard goal line play before the end of the half. His teammate Joshua Kelley led the Chargers in rushing with 65 yards while receiver Joshua Palmer finished the game with 77 receiving yards.

For the Silver and Black, running back Josh Jacobs led his backfield with 58 yards through 17 carries. Down 10-24, Jacobs was able to convert a goal line rushing touchdown to bring the division rivalry to a one possession game, but the Chargers ate a majority of the remaining four minutes at SoFi.

“We put ourselves in a hole here and I thought our team fought hard and fought back, but we’re gonna have to clean up some of the things that we’re doing to put us in those situations so we don’t have to feverishly scramble back at the end,” said Raiders coach Josh McDaniels.

One thing to look out for is Davante Adams’ shoulder injury. The Raiders receiver had to leave the second quarter but did return after halftime. Traveling back home to Allegiant Stadium, the Packers are next in line for Week 5.
