It should come as no surprise that Daniel Carlson kicked a game-winning walk-off field goal in the Raiders vs Colts matchup on Sunday. In a nail biting second-straight win for the Las Vegas Raiders, they now sit 9-7 in the AFC West.
The Raiders got off to a solid start against the Colts but gave them two scores, one right before halftime and one right after. Thanks to the clutch chemistry between quarterback Derek Carr and wide receiver Hunter Renfrow, the Silver & Black put themselves in great position for a game-winning drive to end the game.
Carr finished the day with 255 passing yards, a lone touchdown to Renfrow, and two picks. Carson Wentz of the Indianapolis Colts had a game managing day with 148 yards and 1 touchdown. Sophomore star running back Jonathon Taylor rushed for 108 yards and a score, a somewhat tame outcome from his “fantasy” projections.
Raiders running back Josh Jacobs had a solid outing with 63 yards and a touchdown on 16 carries. Receiver Zay Jones had a field day with 120 yards on eight receptions. The Raiders defensive line racked up 20 pressures and one sack. Edge rusher Yannick Ngakoue led the group with five pressures and a sack. The defensive unit was less effective against the run, as Colts rushers averaged 1.3 yards before contact per attempt, but with JT on the field that’s understandable.
The crucial plays occurred with 54 seconds left on the board as the Raiders held the last scoring possession of the game. Carr connected with Renfrow on a touchdown but it looked as if Renfrow was tripped up right after the catch. Replay showed that Colts defensive back Kenny Moore III did trip Renfrow with a finger. Set up at the 15 yard line, Carlson solidified the 23-20 win with a 33-yard game-winning field goal.
For their final game of the season, the Las Vegas Raiders will host the Los Angeles Chargers at Allegiant Stadium on Sunday night, January 9. With a win, the Raiders will clinch the playoffs.
