With their playoff contention at stake, Indianapolis Colts quarterback Gardner Minshew led his team to a 23-20 victory in the Raiders vs Colts Week 17 matchup at Lucas Oil Stadium. Running back Jonathon Taylor ran 96 yards with a touchdown, marking his most yardage on the ground this season.
Minshew completed 15 passes on 23 attempts for 224 passing yards and one touchdown. Taylor led all backs for the day with 21 carries, although Raiders running back Zamir White rushed for 71 yards on 20 carries as well as caught 5 receptions for 35 yards. Raiders receiver Davante Adams had a huge day, catching 13 receptions for 126 yards and two touchdowns, all from quarterback Aidan O’Connell who threw 299 yards with 30 completions.
Taylor put the Colts on the board early on in the first with a 5-yard touchdown. Raiders kicker Daniel Carlson succeeded on a 40-yard field goal but Minshew extended his team’s lead with a tremendous 58-yard touchdown play with receiver Alec Pierce.
Adams caught his first touchdown during the middle of the third quarter and added his second tuddy late in the fourth, but by that time it was too late as the Raiders couldn’t win the ball back with less than a minute left on the clock. Adams has now hit over 1,000 yards for the fourth year in a row. He will have one more opportunity next to to get his fifth career season of 100 catches and 1,000 yards with just two receptions.
“Guys are disappointed. Why wouldn’t you be? We had a great opportunity,” said interim coach Antonio Pierce. “There was no guarantee we were going to get into the playoffs. A lot of things would still have to go our way. But these guys are proud about being Raiders. I’m proud to be coaching them.”
With their first loss in three weeks, the Raiders are now eliminated from playoff contention. They will face AFC West rivals Denver Broncos next week for their final game of the season.
