Raiders vs Vikings Week 14 | 2023 Season Highlights

In the lowest scoring NFL game over the last 16 years, the Raiders vs Vikings Week 14 showdown at Allegiant Stadium on Sunday ended in a 3-0 shutout on the end of the Silver and Black. Yes, you read that correctly. This was surely not an MLB game.

The only player who scored was Vikings kicker Greg Joseph who shot a 36-yarder with 2 minutes left in the fourth quarter. This 3-0 game was only the third in the past 40 years and the seventh since the Super Bowl era. The last time a game ended in a 3-0 score was when Ben Roethlisberger’s Pittsburgh Steelers defeated the John Beck led Miami Dolphins on November 26, 2007.

With only 230 yards overall, the Vikings limited the Raiders to only 201 total yards and claimed their first win against an AFC West team this 2023 season. The Vikings utilized both Joshua Dobbs and Nick Mullens at QB who threw for 63 and 83 yards, respectively. Raiders’ Aidan O’Connell topped all quarterbacks with 171 passing yards for the day, but threw a costly interception on the first play of their second drive in the fourth quarter.

Dobbs had a subpar day and was replaced by Mullens in the fourth, who led his team on the game’s only scoring drive of the day. After connecting with rookie receiver Jordan Addision, who went 23rd overall in the 2023 NFL Draft, on a 22-yard play, Mullens set up Joseph on the Raiders 20 to put them on the board up three points.

“You never know when your name is going to be called, but you prepare and work as hard as you can and trust that there’s a plan out there for you,” said Mullens. “I did that, stepped in. The guys did an incredible job. It doesn’t matter what it looks like, a win is a win.”

The Vikings lost three-time Pro Bowler and 2022 NFL Offensive Player of the Year Justin Jefferson in the second quarter after a chest injury following a mid-air tackle by Raiders safety Marcus Epps. Jefferson was taken to the hospital.

There wasn’t much to talk about in the Raiders ground game as running back Josh Jacobs only recorded 24 yards on 13 carries. Vikings’ running back Alexander Mattison tallied 66 yards on 10 rushes, while backup RB Ty Chandler rushed for 25 yards on 12 carries.

This was surely an outing we’d like to forget, but both defenses played a huge factor in the low scoring game. Next week, the Raiders will face their AFC West rivals in the Los Angeles Chargers.
